How do Avomine Tablets Work?
Avomine Tablets 25mg can provide up to 24 hours relief in one dose and is generally well tolerated and can be used by children from 5 years. The active ingredient, promethazine, works by blocking histamine from binding to receptors in the body. It blocks histamines in a part of the brain known as the “vomiting centre” which is activated when it receives nerve messages from the ear.
The vestibular apparatus in the middle ear is constantly providing feedback to your brain about the position of your body, especially when you are travelling by boat or car. This is what causes symptoms of motion sickness when travelling and leads to nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and vertigo (spinning sensations). In order to prevent this, you can take Avomine tablets one to two hours before travelling. If you are going to go for a longer journey, you should take Avomine tablets at bedtime, the day before starting out.
What is Travel Sickness ( Motion Sickness )?
Motion sickness is feeling sick when travelling by car, boat, plane or train. You can do things to prevent it or relieve the symptoms.
HOW TO EASE MOTION SICKNESS YOURSELF
DO
reduce motion – sit in the front of a car or in the middle of a boat
look straight ahead at a fixed point, such as the horizon
breathe fresh air if possible – for example, by opening a car window
close your eyes and breathe slowly while focusing on your breathing
distract children by talking, listening to music or singing songs
break up long journeys to get some fresh air, drink water or take a walk
try ginger, which you can take as a tablet, biscuit or tea
DON’T
do not read, watch films or use electronic devices
do not look at moving objects, such as passing cars or rolling waves
do not eat heavy meals, spicy foods or drink alcohol shortly before or during travel
do not go on fairground rides if they make you feel unwell
CAUSES OF MOTION SICKNESS
Motion sickness is caused by repeated movements when travelling, like going over bumps in a car or moving up and down in a boat.
The inner ear sends different signals to your brain from those your eyes are seeing. These confusing messages cause you to feel unwell.

For the prevention of travel sickness on long journeys eg cruises or long distance coaches:
Take one tablet each night at bedtime starting the night before you travel.
For the prevention of travel sickness on short journeys:
Take one tablet one or two hours before travelling.
Treatment of travel sickness:
Take one tablet as soon as you feel sick followed by a second tablet the same evening. Take a third tablet the next evening if necessary.
Nausea and vomiting due to other causes:
One tablet each night is usually enough, but two or three tablets may be required by some patients. These can be taken at intervals during the day, but it is often not necessary for more than 4 tablets to be needed in any 24 hour period.
Children over 10 years:
Use the lower dose of ONE tablet
Children 5 – 10 years – Half the adult dose.
Not suitable for children under 5 years old

As dizziness and drowsiness is a possible side effect, you should avoid operating machinery or driving a vehicle at least for the first few days of treatment until you are certain these particular side effects haven’t presented themselves.
A minor interaction with promethazine teoclate is that it can interfere with the results of skin tests to determine what you are or are not allergic to. The antihistamine properties of promethazine teoclate mean that the results of said allergy test may be inaccurate. Make sure you stop taking this medicine at least 72 hours before any skin allergy tests are scheduled.
Similarly, you should also avoid taking Vertigon promethazine teoclate tablets before a pregnancy test, as this medication can interfere with the accuracy of the results.
Please also note that if you experience any other side effects not listed here that you believe are a result of this treatment, talk to your doctor or pharmacist and consider reporting these side effects through the Government’s Yellow Card Scheme.
You should not take Vertigon If you have taken Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression within the last 14 days. Similarly, if you suffer from Central Nervous System (CNS) depression, do not take this product. You may begin to feel excessively sleepy or become unconscious.
If you’re pregnant, or think that you may be pregnant, do not take Vertigon unless on the advice of your doctor. Taking this medication while breast feeding may cause your baby to become more excitable or irritable.
You should also avoid drinking alcohol until you’re finished with your Vertigon treatment, as this medication can make the effects of alcohol worse.
Caution:
My cause drowsiness, if affected do not drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcoholic drink. Not to be taken during pregnancy except on medical advice.

Side Effects
Cease taking Vertigon Promethazine tablets immediately and contact your doctor or pharmacist in the first instance if you experience any of the following side effects immediately after taking this medication:
A rash, itching or swelling around the face, lips, or mouth.
shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
irregular heartbeats or low blood pressure
Contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice and support if you experience the following side effects:
Infections, fevers, or sore throats that seem to be lasting longer than usual
Unexplained bruising or nosebleeds
Yellowing of the skin, dark urine, and yellowing of the whites of the eyes
Other side effects could include:
Headaches, dizziness, restlessness, confusion, or drowsiness
Loss of appetite or upset stomach.
Muscle cramp, or unusual muscle jerks.
As dizziness and drowsiness is a possible side effect, you should avoid operating machinery or driving a vehicle at least for the first few days of treatment until you are certain these particular side effects haven’t presented themselves.
While taking promethazine teoclate, elderly people may experience dry mouth, slight blurred vision, or difficulty passing water, while children who take this medicine may become more excitable and energetic than usual.

72 HOURS OF UNPROTECTED SEX – Levonorgestrel Morning After Pill is an emergency contraceptive that can be used within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex or if your usual contraceptive method has failed.
USE AFTER UNPROTECTED SEX – If you have had unprotected sex, take Levonorgestrel Morning After Pill as soon as possible. The sooner you take it, the more effective it will be.
