Malarone Tablets – Antimalarial Tablets, 12 Tablets

Malarone tablets is used to prevent and treat malaria. It contains two active ingredients, atovaquone and proguanil hydrochloride, which work together to kill the parasites that cause malaria. Malarone can be used to prevent malaria in adults and children who are going to areas where there is a risk of getting the infection. It can also be used to treat malaria in adults and children.

What is Malaria?

Malaria is a serious tropical disease that can be fatal if not treated promptly. A single mosquito bite leads to infection.

It’s important to be aware of the symptoms of malaria if you’re travelling to areas where there’s a high risk of the disease.

Symptoms of malaria can develop as quickly as 7 days after you’re bitten by an infected mosquito.

Typically, the time between being infected and when symptoms start (incubation period) is 7 to 18 days, depending on the specific parasite you’re infected with. However, in some cases it can take up to a year for symptoms to develop.

The initial symptoms of malaria are flu-like and include:

  • a high temperature of 38C or above
  • feeling hot and shivery
  • headaches
  • vomiting
  • muscle pains
  • diarrhoea
  • generally feeling unwell

These symptoms are often mild and can sometimes be difficult to identify as malaria.

How to protect yourself from malaria?

People of any age can get malaria. It is a serious disease, but it is preventable. As well as taking Maloff Protect, it is very important that you also take steps to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. The bite avoidance measures listed below should be used in combination for maximum effectiveness.

  • Use insect repellent on exposed areas of the skin.
  • Wear clothing that covers most of the body, especially after sunset as this is the time when mosquitoes are most active.
  • Sleep in a room with screened windows and doors or under a mosquito net (it is preferable to sleep under a mosquito net treated with insecticide if possible).
  • Close windows and doors at sunset, if they are not screened.
  • Sleep in a room with air-conditioning or a fan, as mosquitoes are less active in cooler temperatures.
  • Consider using an insecticide (mats, spray, plug-ins) to clear a room of insects or to stop mosquitoes from entering the room.

Can someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding use Malarone Tablets?

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or intend to get pregnant, or you are breastfeeding, do not take Maloff Protect unless your doctor tells you to.

Seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and need to take an antimalarial.
