What is Oilatum Plus?
Oilatum Plus Antiseptic Bath Emollient For Eczema Treatment is a form of treatment that is designed to treat eczema that is a potential risk of becoming infected. This antiseptic bath additive works by cleansing the skin and reducing the chance of infection. It works thanks to the active ingredients which are:
Triclosan
Benzalkonium chloride
Light liquid paraffin
These all protect the skin and help to restore the moisture that has been lost as a result of the skin condition.
Oilatum® Plus is used to treat eczema that is at risk of becoming infected.
Oilatum® Plus is for use by adults, children and babies over 6 months old.
Do not use Oilatum® Plus if you have previously had a skin reaction or allergy (hypersensitivity) to any of the ingredients.
Who is this Antiseptic bath additive suitable for?
Oilatum Plus bath additive is suitable to be used by adults and children aged 6 months and older. It should not be used by anyone who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the solution.
Oilatum Plus Antiseptic Bath Emollient For Eczema Treatment should only be used Once daily
For adults and children aged 2 and over, use 2 capfuls in a 20cm (8 inch) bath, and 1 capful in a 10cm (4 inch) bath.
For infants aged between 6 months and 2 years, use just 1ml of solution into a baby bath.
Once in the bath, soak for 10-15 minutes before patting the skin dry with a towel.
Do not use with any soaps. After finishing in the bath, ensure that the drain pipe is free of any solution. To do this, rinse with warm water. You may also need to clean the bath with a degreasing agent.
Side Effects
Application site reactions including- skin exfoliation, erythema, dermatitis, pruritus and burning sensation.
Reporting of suspected adverse reactions
Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product. Healthcare professionals are asked to report any suspected adverse reactions via the Yellow Card Scheme at:www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard.
Oilatum Plus contains benzalkonium chloride which is irritant and may cause skin reactions.
Contains Lanolin which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
If irritation or rash occurs when the product is used in the correct dilution, use should be discontinued.
If the undiluted product comes into contact with the eye, reddening may occur. The patient should be advised to perform eye irrigation for 15 minutes. If there is persistent irritation the patient should be advised to contact a doctor.
Avoid contact of the undiluted product with the eyes and skin.
If undiluted product is applied directly to the skin, it may cause application site skin irritation and hypersensitivity reactions including skin exfoliation, pain, blister, caustic injury and necrosis. The patient should be advised to contact a doctor.
The patient should be advised to use care to avoid slipping in the bath.
Instruct patients not to smoke or go near naked flames – risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not totally remove it.
